PICKS TRYING NOT TO SUCK: WEEK 10

blatanthomerism

The Skinny picked up a game on BH last week as we enter the season’s stretch run.

On to this week’s picks…

BLATANT HOMERISM–Week 10
(Last week: 2-3; Overall: 28-17)

LSU at Alabama (-6.5)

I don’t love this pick, but I feel like I’d be doing y’all a disservice if I didn’t give you something on the latest game of the century.

How often does ‘Bama lose when it’s duking it out with similarly cro-magnon teams? The Crimson Tide generally destroy teams of LSU’s ilk, and I haven’t seen enough out of Tiger QB Brandon Harris to make me think he can throw well enough to keep ‘Bama honest on defense.

The pick: Alabama 24, LSU 14

Texas Tech at West Virginia (-8.5)

The Red Raiders are coming off a rough back-to-back games against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Now, they get to make the trek out to Morgantown for an early kickoff.

Look for big efforts out of WVU running backs Rushel Shell and Wendell Smallwood against Tech’s putrid run defense.

The pick: Mountaineers by 14.

Penn State (+2.5) at Northwestern

Get ready for an ugly game. The Wildcats will be ugliest.

The pick: Nittany Lions, 7-6.

Minnesota at Ohio State (-24)

One of these teams had last week off. The other lost a heartbreaker to Michigan.

One of these teams is making a run at the College Football Playoff. The other needs a big push just to make a bowl game.

One of these teams is coached by one of the best in the game. The other team’s coach retired last week.

The pick: One of these teams is worth laying the points on.

Notre Dame at Pittsburgh (+8.5)

The Fighting Irish have to travel east for another the second week in a row. This time, they’re in the unfamiliar position of playing at high noon. Weird spot for ND.

As Michigan State’s defensive coordinator, Pat Narduzzi had success slowing down Brian Kelly’s offense. He should have the Panthers ready to get after DeShone Kizer and Co.

The pick: ND by not enough, if at all.

THE SKINNY–Week 9
(Last week: 3-2; Overall: 22-22-1)

Arizona at USC (-17.5)
Duke at North Carolina (-8)
Kansas at Texas (-29)
Texas Tech (+8.5) at West Virginia
Iowa at Indiana (+7)

KNEE-JERKING: KYLER MURRAY TRANSFERRING TO OKLAHOMA

Word started to spread last week that there might be some mutual interest between Oklahoma and Texas A&M transfer Kyler Murray. (Props to SoonerScoop.com for the… scoop.) I didn’t put much stock in it, which shows what I know. A few thoughts on the big Christmas Eve news: *To get this out of […]
